Search warrant turns up cocaine, MDMA, magic mushrooms

A 30-year-old Chatham man is facing a handful of drug and weapons-related charges after Chatham-Kent police searched a residence in Chatham Tuesday night.

Police said members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section and the Critical Incident Response Team executed the warrant and seized some MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine, methamphetamine, and psilocybin (magic mushrooms) from the scene.

Officers also reportedly seized some digital scales, $990 in cash, a sawed-off shotgun, and two sets of brass knuckles.

The accused in the case -- a 30-year-old man from Park Street in Chatham -- is charged with four drug-related offences along with one count each of unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, and failing to comply with an undertaking.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Dover Township break-in under investigation

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after someone broke into a barn on Marsh Line in Dover Township earlier this week and took off with some motor oil and a battery-powered Mastercraft drill.

Police said the value of the theft is estimated at $200.

It's believed the break-in took place sometime between November 23 and November 24.

Man caught out past his curfew

An 18-year-old Chatham man is in more trouble with police after officers allegedly found him on King Street West in Chatham Tuesday night -- out past his curfew.

Police said the man was released from custody on November 20 with several conditions including where he was supposed to live and a curfew.

When officers saw him on King Street outside of those hours, they arrested him for failing to comply with his release order.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police stop speeders in Tilbury

Chatham-Kent police are reminding drivers to slow down -- and they issued some notices and warnings in Tilbury on Tuesday to get the message out.

Officers issued eight Provincial Offences Notices along with several warnings for speeding under the Highway Traffic Act during that blitz.
