Man accused of shoplifting at Walmart

A Chatham man under court-ordered conditions to stay away from the Walmart in Chatham has been arrested after he allegedly stole fishing gear from the store over the weekend.

Police said the man was ordered to stay away from the Walmart location on two separate occasions, one in 2019 and the other on February 28, 2020.

Officers were called about a shoplifting complaint at the store on Sunday. It's alleged the man hid $111 worth of fishing items in his coat and walked out without paying. Most of the stolen items were recovered when a loss prevention officer confronted the man. Officers then stopped him nearby and seized the remaining stolen items.

A 43-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, failing to comply with his release conditions, and two counts of breach of probation.

Man charged with failing to comply

A 27-year-old Chatham man has been charged after he allegedly failed to stay away from his ex-girlfriend.

Officers said the 27-year-old was ordered in April to not be within 500 metres of a Chatham apartment where his ex lives.

He was arrested on Sunday after police found out that he was living in the apartment unit directly above his ex-girlfriend's.

Teens charged with mischief

Two teen boys have been charged with mischief over $5,000 after officers were called about a disturbance at a residence in Dover Township.

Police said the boys damaged their respective rooms, linen closet, and bathroom door on Sunday night.

The two were arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Alleged drunk driver arrested

A 62-year-old Tilbury man has been charged with impaired driving after officers received a complaint about a vehicle driving on Mill Street West on Sunday.

Police said the driver was taken to police headquarters for breath tests and later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He has a future court date scheduled for November 30.

Man accused in boathouse break-in

A 32-year-old Walpole Island man has been arrested in connection with a break-in in Wallaceburg.

Police said someone broke into a boathouse on Island View Road on Sunday morning and damaged a boat's ignition. A 32-year-old was found hiding inside the boathouse.

He was charged with break and enter and mischief over $5,000. He has a future court date scheduled for January 20, 2021.

Stolen truck found on Croton Line

Chatham-Kent police have recovered a stolen blue 2003 Chev Trailblazer at the scene of a crash.

The truck was reported stolen from a residence on Robinson Road in Camden Township, sometime between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Officers were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Croton Line on Sunday where the truck was found abandoned. Damage to the truck is estimated at $5,000.
