Chatham restaurant voluntarily closes after positive COVID-19 case

A Chatham restaurant is choosing to temporarily close its doors after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

On Sunday afternoon, Quesada Burritos & Tacos on St. Clair Street posted on Facebook that the owners were made aware on Saturday night that one of the store's part-time staff members tested positive for the virus.

As a result, the decision was made to temporarily close the location as all staff members undergo COVID-19 tests.

According to the post, the restaurant will remain closed until all employees have tested negative.

"We are in the process of conducting a complete and thorough cleaning and disinfecting of our facility," read the post. "We are closing our doors not because we’ve been ordered to, but because we feel that it’s the right and responsible thing to do. We want to be sure there is no chance for community spread and that our valued staff and customers are all safe."

The post also states that restaurant staff have followed the local health unit's guidelines and protocols "to the letter."

Chatham Kent Public Health said health officials have completed contact investigation for Quesada in Chatham, and those requiring follow-up have been contacted.

Patrons are encouraged to follow the restaurant's social media pages for updates on reopening.
