Teen motorcycle driver dies after crash

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a fatal crash west of Chatham that claimed the life of a 14-year-old Dover Township boy.

Police said they were called to the scene at the intersection of Town Line Road and Pain Court Line near Prairie Siding shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers said their investigation so far shows that a motorcycle was heading north on Town Line Road when the motorcycle driver failed to yield the right of way and collided with an SUV that was driving east on Pain Court Line.

The motorcycle driver -- a 14-year-old Dover Township teen -- suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and later died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

The driver of the SUV that was involved in the crash -- a 63-year-old Dover Township woman -- did not report any physical injuries.

Police said they will not be releasing the identity of the teen out of respect for his family.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Dan Carroll at dancar@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
