Man charged after disturbance call

A man has been arrested and charged with uttering threats after an incident on Tweedsmuir Avenue in Chatham on Tuesday.

Officers responded to a disturbance call around 4 p.m.

Police attempted to negotiate with a man in crisis to have him exit the home. However, the man refused to come out and officers entered the home around 7 p.m. to apprehend him. He was transported to the hospital for assistance.

Through investigation, police learned that the man had allegedly threatened a family member.

On Wednesday morning, the 23-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with uttering threats.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Teamwork helps find missing 2 ½-year-old boy boy

A scary situation for any parent or guardian ended on a good note after a missing boy was found safe in a cornfield behind his home on Tuesday evening.

Chatham-Kent police were called to Pioneer Line on Tuesday around 4 p.m.

A joint effort was made between Community Patrol, CIRT, K9 and UAS (drone). The boy was found by a neighbour just before 5 p.m. Luckily, he was found safe and healthy.

Man assaulted with shower curtain

A 34-year-old Chatham man has been charged after he allegedly used a shower rod and curtain as a weapon.

Police said one man hit another in the leg with a shower curtain during an argument on King Street in Chatham on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers arrested a 34-year-old man and seized the metal pole. The Chatham man is charged with assault with a weapon. -------------

Rifle reported stolen

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a firearm reported stolen in Wheatley.

Three properties on 1st Concession Line were broken into on Monday. Officers learned on Tuesday that a black .22 caliber Mossberg rifle was stolen from a trailer along with a magazine. The rifle had a scope and trigger lock attached to it.

Counterfeit bills seized

Police have arrested a man accused of using counterfeit U.S. bills.

A 47-year-old Chatham man was wanted for using a fake $100 U.S. bill to buy clothes at an unspecified local store. He was found Tuesday afternoon but during the arrest, officers seized four counterfeit $20 U.S. bills.

He was charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, using counterfeit money, and two counts of being in possession of counterfeit money.

The 47-year-old has a future court date scheduled for November 10. ---------------

Alleged shoplifter arrested

A 41-year-old Thamesville man accused of shoplifting from the Walmart in Wallaceburg is facing charges.

Police said he paid for some items last night but allegedly failed to pay for items concealed in his coat.

He also reportedly swapped his shoes for new boots and walked out without paying for them. The items were worth a combined total of approximately $150.

He was charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for drug possession. The 41-year-old has a future court date scheduled for November 12.

Women charged with failing to comply

A couple of women are in more trouble with the law for allegedly not following their release conditions.

In one case, police said a 24-year-old Chatham woman released from custody on September 14 was ordered to follow several conditions, two of which were to not communicate with a specific Chatham man or go to his home. Officers found the woman hiding in his home on Tuesday night after they were called about a disturbance.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with her release conditions. She has a future court date scheduled for November 18.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with failing to comply with her release conditions after she allegedly saw a man she was ordered to not communicate with. Police said she was given several conditions back in August but the two were allegedly seen together at a gas station on September 27. She turned herself in on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

She has a future court date scheduled for November 17.

Break-in reported at Chatham school

Police are investigating a break-in at a school in Chatham, currently under construction.

The school on Baldoon Road was broken into either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Officers said two Stihl orange and white cement saws, an Arbortech dark grey cement saw, a DeWalt grinder, impact drill, and hammer drill were reported stolen.

The items are worth approximately $7,000 and about $2,000 worth of damage was caused to a forklift.

Thefts reported in CK

About $1,600 worth of electronics have been reported stolen from a church on Victoria Avenue in Chatham.

Police said a break-in reported at Living Faith Church caused about $300 worth of damage. An Acer laptop and HP laptop were reported stolen.

In a separate theft investigation, someone broke into a construction site on Tecumseh Line in Tilbury sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning. About $3,000 worth of building materials were reported stolen.

Stolen vehicle investigation

A 37-year-old Chatham woman wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation has been arrested.

Officers said she was arrested on Tuesday night and charged with being in possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

She was released from police custody with a future court date scheduled for November 18.
