Big Brothers Big Sisters draw raises $51K locally

The community is getting praise from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent for its fundraising efforts.

Tickets for the Bigger Together 50/50 Raffle in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters went on sale on September 16 and the draw was held on Friday.

Thirty-four agencies across Ontario, including Chatham-Kent, worked together on the 50/50 raffle in hopes of maximizing fundraising potential.

According to Chatham-Kent caseworker Holly Larivee, a resident from Lindsay took home the $178,790 jackpot.

Larivee said links were used during the process to track where the ticket purchases came from to ensure that everything that's raised local, stays local. According to Larivee, Chatham-Kent raised just over $51,000, which she said is an average of six times more than any other agency in Ontario.

"It’s just incredible to have come out in first place," said Larivee. "Way to go Chatham-Kent."

The money will go towards Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent programs.
