Alleged shoplifter charged with resisting arrest

A 36-year-old woman accused of shoplifting a couple of cosmetic gift boxes from the Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham is facing a few charges after she allegedly resisted arrest.

Police said a shoplifting complaint was made on Sunday night. The 36-year-old is accused of walking out of the store with two gift boxes worth $186 in her purse.

When officers approached her on Queens Street, she reportedly used foul language and refused to stop. During the arrest, police said she tried to pull away and continued to kick at officers while she was placed in the police cruiser.

She was charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, and resisting arrest. --------

Wanted man arrested

A 30-year-old man wanted in connection with a robbery investigation has been arrested after he was found somewhere he shouldn't have been.

Police said the man was ordered in August to obey several conditions, one of which was to not communicate with a specific Wallaceburg woman.

On Sunday, he allegedly went to the woman's home and slept in the basement. Later in the day, an argument sparked between the two which resulted in the man reportedly throwing items and the woman leaving the home to call for help.

The 30-year-old was charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

Dover man charged after police find stolen items

A search of a residence and an adjacent property on Grande River Line has turned up a couple of stolen vehicles.

Officers searched the property earlier this month and found a 2006 purple Chevrolet four-door Sedan and a 2014 Triumph 675cc motorcycle. The Sedan was reported stolen in Tecumseh in August while the motorcycle was reported stolen in Hamilton. The stolen property is worth approximately $10,000.

A 43-year-old Dover Township man was arrested last week and charged with two counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000. He has a future court date scheduled for November 19.

Tickets handed out during traffic blitz

Chatham-Kent police are reminding motorists to drive safely on local roadways.

Twenty vehicles were stopped in Chatham on Sunday during a traffic blitz. Police said 19 tickets were issued for speeding, failing to surrender an insurance card and not having a validated license plate.

Traffic stop results in charges

A 34-year-old Ridgetown man accused of speeding on Charing Cross Road is facing a few changes.

Police clocked a vehicle driving 120 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/ hr zone on Sunday morning. The driver was reportedly under conditions to have an ignition interlock device but didn't, he also reportedly failed to provide ownership for the vehicle.

The 34-year was charged with speeding, driving a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock device and failing to surrender a permit for a motor vehicle. He has been ordered to attend Provincial Offences Court on November 25. ---------

Mischief on Maple Line

Police are investigating after someone tried to cut the lock of a sea can style shipping container with a torch.

The attempt to cut the lock reportedly happened sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning on Maple Line. Police said this is not the first time someone has tried to cut the lock off of the container.

Police investigate thefts in Dover Township

Police are investigating a couple of thefts in Dover Township that happened over the weekend.

In one case, a blue 2012 Polaris Special Edition Sportsman ATV was reported stolen. Police said the ATV was stolen from a workshop on Grande River Line sometime between Friday evening and Saturday morning. The ATV was last seen with the Ontario license plate 95WX5 and has a light yellow spray tank on the back.

Meanwhile, $600 worth of tools were reported stolen from an unlocked garage on Winterline Road. It's believed they were taken sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Stolen Motorcycle in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a stolen motorcycle.

Investigators said someone stole a red 2002 Honda ST1100 motorcycle from a parking lot on Barthe Street sometime between Sunday at 11 p.m. and Monday at 9:30 a.m. The motorcycle was last seen with Ontario license plate 5903Y.
