Staff at the Chatham-Kent Hospice are getting a helping hand when it comes to safely lifting residents, thanks to donations from a few local groups.
The Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation said recent donations have been used to purchase six specialized patient transfer sheets. The new equipment, which is mounted to the ceiling, helps to reposition and lift residents to make transfers in a safe manner.
The foundation said the transfer sheets were purchased with donations made from the Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors, Corteva Agriscience, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 642.
“Thank you very much to the donors for this generous donation. Knowing we can safely assist our residents who are highly dependent and bed-bound not only brings comfort to the resident but also to their family and it is a great support to our staff,” said Hospice Manager Maureen Eyres.
The Chatham-Kent hospice offers end of life care and support for residents and their loved ones. The 10-bed facility opened in April 2016 and has served over 825 families. However, it does depend heavily on donations made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.
Approximately $108,000 in donations is needed each month in order to support operating costs at the Hospice, according to the foundation.
