COVID-19 spoils annual box lunch fundraiser

Community Living Wallaceburg has decided to cancel its 20th annual Box Lunch fundraiser due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Initially, the annual fundraiser was postponed to a fall date as it typically takes place in the spring. This will be the first time in its history that the organization will not be able to hold the box lunch event.

“In spite of our disappointment in having to cancel the Box Lunch event and celebrating our milestone year, we are looking forward to 2021 and working with our volunteers and sponsors to create an extra special lunch and event, when we’re finally able to celebrate our 20th year,” said Community Living Wallaceburg Executive Director Deborah Hook.

Last year's event saw 100 volunteers help make, pack, and deliver home-made box lunches to residents and businesses across Chatham-Kent and Lambton County.

Over the years, the box lunch event has gained traction from only 271 lunches in 2001 to more than 2,000 lunches in 2019.

Anyone who purchased a box lunch for the 2020 fundraiser will receive an email or phone call within the next few days about a refund.
