Can you help police identify this man?

Chatham-Kent police are asking for the public's help to identify a suspect in connection with a break and enter investigation at Valvoline Express on St. Clair Street in Chatham early Wednesday morning.

Police have released a picture of the suspect below and anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Shawn Labelle at shawnl@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 extension #87367.  Anonymous callers may also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Early morning bicycle stop leads to arrest in Chatham

A bike without a bell ended up tipping off police to a suspicious cyclist early Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on general patrol saw a man riding a bike on Grand Avenue East in Chatham at around 4 a.m. without a bell or a horn on his bicycle.

The officer stopped the man for the offence, which is listed under the Highway Traffic Act, and learned that he was out past his curfew.

Police said the man was arrested as a result and when he was being searched, the officer also allegedly found him carrying a cheque and a bank card on him that belonged to someone else. The man also allegedly had a bank receipt on him confirming the cheque was recently deposited using the bank card.

Police said they also found a stolen driver's license, a debit card, a crowbar, and some bolt cutters in the man's possession.

A 36-year-old Chatham man was charged with possession of stolen property, using a forged document, fraud, possession of break-in tools, and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Alarm tips off police to break-in suspect

A 24-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with break and enter after he was allegedly caught inside a fenced compound at a local business early Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they found the man inside the compound while they were responding to an alarm at Maple City Marine on Grand Avenue in Chatham just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

He was arrested, charged, and taken into custody.

Police arrest alleged purse thief

A Wallaceburg man has been arrested after he allegedly stole a pair of purses from a local business.

Police said the man allegedly attended Westbrook's Flower Shoppe on James Street in Wallaceburg last week Tuesday and took off with two purses without paying for them.

The purses have an estimated combined value of $200.

Officers were able to identify a suspect in connection with the case and found him Tuesday night. He was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and later released pending a future court date.

Safe containing valuables, watch stolen from Chatham residence

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they investigate a break-in on Crerar Drive in Chatham.

Police said someone broke into an unlocked residence on that street between 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and took off with a small safe containing personal identification and a small amount of cash. Whoever broke in also stole a silver Citizen watch with a dark face.

Cash stolen from an unlocked vehicle

Chatham-Kent police are also investigating after someone stole an undisclosed amount of cash from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in an unlocked garage at a residence on Whitebread Line.

Officers said the theft took place sometime between Sunday and Tuesday of this week.

Charge laid after a single-vehicle crash

A 32-year-old woman has been charged with careless driving in connection with a single-vehicle crash that took place on Irish School Road between McCreary Line and Kent Line Tuesday night.

Police said the driver wasn't hurt and the damages were estimated at $3,000.
