DNA evidence helps police track down break-in suspect

A 38-year-old Tilbury man has been arrested in connection with a break-in at a local pharmacy that took place back in January.

Police said their investigation started after officers responded to an alarm at a pharmacy in Tilbury on January 17.

At that time, officers saw that someone had smashed the front window of the pharmacy and pried open the narcotics cabinet enough to take several bottles of pills.

Police said during their investigation, they were able to obtain some DNA evidence from the scene and sent it off to the Centre of Forensic Sciences where it hit a match with a local man in March.

Officers were able to track the man down Monday night and arrested him.

A 38-year-old Tilbury man was charged with break and enter and later released with a future court date.

Video surveillance helps police track down theft suspect

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 33-year-old man from Howard Township who is accused of shoplifting a 'Red Bull' hat from a local convenience store.

Police said the man allegedly attended the Circle K store on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham on Friday night and used a credit card that was previously reported stolen.

The man also allegedly grabbed a 'Red Bull' hat on his way out of the business without making any attempt to pay for it.

Officers were able to identify a suspect after reviewing some surveillance footage and arrested him Monday night.

The accused was charged with fraud, possession of property obtained by crime, and two counts of theft. He was later released pending a future court date.

Multiple arrests on warrants

Chatham-Kent police were able to round up four people on Monday who were wanted for a variety of offences.

A 33-year-old Thamesville man wanted for criminal harassment and failing to comply with his release conditions turned himself in Monday afternoon. He was arrested and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

A 31-year-old man who was wanted for possession for the purpose of trafficking and failing to attend court was arrested Monday afternoon after an officer spotted him in the parking lot of a motel in Chatham. He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 29-year-old Tilbury man who was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions was arrested Monday night. He was later reelased pending a future court date.

And a 31-year-old Thamesville man who was wanted for breaching his conditional sentence order was arrested Monday night. Police said he was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Break-in at Wallaceburg oil change business

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a break-in at the Great Canadian Oil Change on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Police said the incident took place at around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers said someone forced their way into the business, causing about $500 in damage. They also took off with a small amount of cash, some diagnostic tools, and a battery jumper pack.

Charge laid after crash just outside of Chatham

A 24-year-old Chatham Township woman has been charged with making an unsafe turn in connection with a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon on Centre Side Road near Countryview Line.

Police said no injuries were reported, but the damage was estimated at $8,000.
