Chatham man charged with aggravated assault

Chatham-Kent police have made an arrest after a 67-year-old Chatham man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries following a fight between two local men Tuesday night.

Police said they were called to a disturbance at a residence in Chatham and learned that a fight between two men who know each other resulted in serious injuries.

The victim -- a 67-year-old man -- was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention and then transferred to Windsor.

Police arrested a 41-year-old Chatham man on Wednesday in connection with the case and charged him with aggravated assault. He was later released pending a future court date.

Harassment charge laid after crash

A 42-year-old Thamesville woman is charged with mischief and criminal harassment in connection with a domestic disturbance at a residence in Dresden.

Police said they were called to the scene Wednesday morning, adding that officers learned a woman had attended the residence and drove her vehicle across the front lawn, eventually hitting another vehicle as well.

The homeowner also told police that the woman who was driving the vehicle had been harassing her and her husband.

The accused was arrested, charged, and later released with a future court date.

Police are on the lookout for a stolen pickup truck

Chatham-Kent police are asking for the public's help to track down a white 2016 Ford F-150 truck that was reported stolen from an unlocked building on Wellington Street in Dresden.

Police said it's believed the truck was taken sometime between 1 a.m. Tuesday and 3 p.m. Wednesday.

It was last seen with Ontario license plates BB66 990.

Blenheim man stopped for going way too fast

A 45-year-old Blenheim man is finding out the hard way that Bear Line Road in Chatham isn't a raceway.

Police said an officer with the Traffic Unit spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on that road Wednesday morning before recording it going a reported 136 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The driver was then stopped and charged with stunt driving.

Police said his license and his vehicle have both been taken away for seven days and he is now required to attend Provincial Offences court in November.

Wallaceburg traffic enforcement

More than a dozen vehicles have been taken out of service after a targeted traffic enforcement blitz took place in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police said they teamed up with the Ministry of Transportation for the Commercial Vehicle Operation on Wednesday.

As a result of that initiative, officers inspected 31 vehicles and took 15 of them out of service.

Police also laid 24 charges ranging from vehicle maintenance violations to licencing issues. Two sets of license plates were also seized.

Officers are also reminding drivers that similar blitzes will continue throughout the year in an effort to keep local roadways safe.
