Marijuana plants stolen, then recovered

A 45-year-old man is facing charges after he tried to take off with several marijuana plants that he allegedly pulled from two separate residences in Blenheim.

Chatham-Kent police said their investigation showed that the man stole seven plants from the backyards of two residences on Towanda Boulevard Tuesday morning and fled the scene, but the homeowners were able to detain him until officers arrived.

Police said all seven plants were recovered.

A 45-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of theft and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was later released pending a future court date.

$20K worth of tools stolen from Tilbury construction site

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone forced their way into a utility trailer at a construction site on Tecumseh Line in Tilbury and took off with about $20,000 worth of power tools.

Police said it's believed the break-in took place sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, adding that the damage caused by the incident is estimated at $500.

Police looking for break-in suspect

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to track down a suspect who stole a small amount of cash from Jiffy Lube on Keil Drive in Chatham.

Police said they responded to an alarm at the business at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and confirmed that someone had broken into the building.

Officers said the break-in caused about $100 in damage, adding that a small amount of cash was stolen.

The suspect is described as a white man with a slim build and he was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, and black and white running shoes.

Man accused of stealing 2L bottle of pop

A 23-year-old Chatham man is facing a handful of charges after he tried to get a five-finger discount on a bottle of pop from a local convenience store.

Police said the man was also previously banned from that store by a court order.

Officers made the arrest after responding to a shoplifting complaint at the Circle K on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg at around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said their investigation showed that the man had taken off with a 2L bottle of pop from the store. He was arrested a short distance away.

The accused was charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime, breaching his probation by attending Circle K, and breaching his curfew.

Police find stolen ATV

A local ATV owner has his vehicle back now, but police are still investigating, after it was reported stolen in Wallaceburg earlier this week.

Police said they found the camo 2005 Polaris Sportsman ATV when they were investigating a report of three suspicious people on Langstaff Line.

Officers were able to recover the vehicle and notified the owner, who was then able to retrieve it from the scene.

Police investigating spraypainted 'tags' in Chatham's north end

Chatham-Kent police are asking the public for tips as investigate several incidents of mischief in Chatham.

Police said the incidents involve people spraypainting graffiti 'tags' in the Prestanica area and the Skateboard Park on Grand Avenue.
