Chatham man accused of driving high

A tip about a possible impaired driver on Richmond Street in Chatham led to an arrest Sunday night.

Police said after receiving that tip, officers pulled over a vehicle on Queens Line and believed the man behind the wheel was under the influence of a drug.

As a result, the man was taken back to police headquarters and evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert who agreed with the initial assessment.

A 56-year-old man was charged with impaired driving as a result of the investigation and was later released with a future court date.

Weed wacker, chainsaw stolen

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to solve a break-in on Furnace Street in Morpeth.

Police said sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, someone broke into a shed on that street and stole a DeWalt cordless weed wacker and a Stihl chainsaw.

The total value of the theft is estimated at $600.

Vehicles reported stolen in Wheatley

Chatham-Kent police are also asking for the public's help as they investigate a pair of vehicle thefts from a local car dealer.

Police said their investigation started when someone reported a suspicious black Ford F-150 truck was abandoned on the side of Coatsworth Road near 3rd Concession Line Sunday morning.

Officers said through their investigation, they learned that the truck had been stolen from GNG Auto Sales on Talbot Trail. Police said they also found some tools inside the vehicle that were stolen from the business.

When officers showed up at the auto dealer, they confirmed that a break-in had taken place there sometime between 6 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday, adding that approximately $20,000 worth of tools were stolen along with an unplated red 2007 Dodge Charger with a black rear spoiler and aluminum sport rims.
