Chatham-Kent Museum set to reopen

The Chatham-Kent Museum is getting ready to open back up after a six-month closure due to COVID-19.

The museum, located on William Street North in Chatham, will reopen its doors on September 30.

The facility will mark its reopening with the  “Carnivals! Festivals! Fairs! Oh My!” exhibit that celebrates the fair tradition in Chatham-Kent.

"Following several weeks of strategizing, our museum team is ready to implement our reopening plan, which offers each visitor a fun, enjoyable, and, most importantly, safe experience," museum officials said in a news release.

There will be several enhanced safety measures in place to comply with COVID-19 public health guidelines. These will include new public hours, reduced visitor capacity, timed admission, and enhanced cleaning protocols.

The museum will now be open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for seniors and from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the general public.

Visitors can bring up to nine people with them that are part of their social circle and must wear masks in accordance with the Chatham-Kent mandatory mask by-law, unless exempt.

In addition, the use of hand sanitizer is required before entering and exiting the exhibit area.

Interactives will be limited and the Imagination Station will remain closed.

"Before you visit, we ask that each member of your party complete the Ontario Ministry of Health self-assessment for COVID-19," said museum officials. "If you are not feeling well, please reschedule your visit for another day."
