Man accused of assaulting neighbour

A 31-year-old Chatham man is in trouble with police after he allegedly assaulted a female neighbour Sunday night.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to a disturbance in a parking lot on Sheldon Avenue in Chatham and arrested the man as a result of their investigation.

He was charged with assault and later released pending a future court date.

Van reported stolen in Dresden

Chatham-Kent police are asking you to keep an eye out for a van that was stolen from a residence on North Street in Dresden sometime over the weekend.

Police said sometime between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday, someone forced their way into the residence and stole some cash and bank cards from two purses along with an iPad and some keys to a red 2006 Chevrolet Uplander van.

The van was last seen with Ontario license plates CJET 336.

Tools stolen in Raleigh Township

Police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to solve a break-in on Sixteenth Line where someone took off with some welding equipment.

Officers said someone forced their way into the shed sometime between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday and took off with the following items:

- a red Lincoln 220 mig-welder

- a brown and brass torch

- a green and brass torch

- a red 2006 CRF50 kid's dirt bike

- a pink HGC snowmobile helmet

The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at $4,000.

Pair of crashes lead to charges

Chatham-Kent police have charged two drivers in connection with two different crashes that took place in Chatham-Kent late Sunday afternoon.

Police said shortly after 5 p.m., officers were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Queen Street near Mill Street in Tilbury.

No injuries were reported after that crash, but the damage was estimated at $10,000. The driver at fault was charged with careless driving.

Police were called to the second crash about a half-hour later, at around 5:30 p.m.

Officers said one person was taken to the hospital for medical attention after the second two-vehicle collision and the person responsible was charged with failing to yield the right of way.

Wanted man arrested in Chatham

Police have caught up with a local man who was wanted for some assault and driving-related charges.

Officers said they arrested a 25-year-old Chatham man Sunday afternoon who wanted for two counts of assault along with one count each of driving while unders suspension and using unauthorized license plates.

The accused was later released pending a future court date and will also be required to attend Provincial Offences Court in November.
