CK looks to youth for feedback

Chatham-Kent residents between the ages of 15 and 39 can have their voices heard on community issues by joining the CKy Advisory Group.

New members are being sought for the advisory group.

The CKy Advisory Group was created in 2018 after feedback showed that only 22 per cent of young people felt that their contributions were valued in the community, according to a municipal media release.

The group's main goal is to discuss ways to attract and retain people to the community and promote youth engagement. Feedback from discussions is then given to Chatham-Kent Council and local organizations.

"We need more unique voices at our table. These conversations are distilled and given to council and municipal staff to aid in their decision-making when it comes to issues affecting young people," said co-chair Morena McDonald. "The more voices we have, the better guidance we can give."

The group consists of up to 14 people who either work, live, or study in Chatham-Kent.

Applications may be submitted online until September 30. For those who want to fill out a hard copy application, call (519) 360-1998 or email livingck@chatham-kent.ca.
