Road projects proposed in Chatham, Blenheim

A couple of well-travelled roads in Chatham and Blenheim may get some lane changes in the near future in an effort to ease traffic flow and make the roadways safer.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent's Engineering and Transportation Division is planning a "road diet and road reorganization" project for Charing Cross Road/ Queen Street in Chatham from Park Avenue to Highway 401 and for Chatham Street in Blenheim from Story Street to Marlborough Street South.

A "road diet" is the narrowing or elimination of a traffic lane, according to a release from the municipality.

The two proposed projects involve the installation of two north and south through lanes (one in each direction), a designated centre turning lane, and will accommodate for bike lanes on both sides of the road.

Additional details about the project will go up on the Let's Talk CK website on September 24. The Chatham and Blenheim project will each have their own links on the website.

Residents will be able to give feedback on the projects, which will go to Chatham-Kent Council at a later date.

Comments regarding the projects can be made through the Let's Talk website or by calling (519) 360-1998 or emailing ckinfo@chatham-kent.ca. However, comments are asked to be made by September 30.
