Impaired driving charges laid

A domestic disturbance in Chatham has resulted in several charges for a 34-year-old man.

Police said a man went to his ex-girlfriend's home Thursday night, which sparked a verbal argument between the two. He allegedly threatened her and left before officers arrived.

A traffic stop was conducted nearby and the man was arrested as police believed he was driving while under the influence of alcohol. At the police station, the 34-year-old allegedly refused to provide two test samples, urinated on the cell floor, and threw water from the toilet onto the floor.

He was charged with impaired driving, being a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero, mischief under $5,000, refusing to comply with a breath demand, and uttering threats. -------

Suspended driver arrested

A suspended driver is in trouble with the law after he was allegedly caught driving a motorcycle at night with no lights.

An officer spotted the motorcycle on Sandys Street in Chatham around 9 p.m. when it pulled into a nearby parking lot. The officer later learned that not only was the person suspended from driving but the licence plate was not registered to the motorcycle.

A 41-year-old Chatham man was charged with driving while under suspension and using plates not authorized for the vehicle. He has a future court date scheduled for October 14. -------

Bike without lights tips off police

A 35-year-old Chatham man accused of breaking a curfew condition has been arrested following a short foot chase.

Police said the Chatham man was ordered in June to obey a daily curfew of 12 a.m. - 6 a.m. An officer saw a man riding a bicycle with no lights on Baxter Street just before 3 a.m. on Friday.

The 35-year-old allegedly tried to get away by riding down St. Patrick Street, he then took off running. He was arrested near St. George Street following a short chase.

He was charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

Busted at motel

A 25-year-old Chatham woman ordered to stay away from a specific man has been charged with failing to comply.

She was allegedly caught staying at a motel in Chatham Thursday night with the said man. -------

Police investigate Ridgetown break-in

Police are investigating a break-in in Ridgetown where approximately $3,000 worth of electronics and items were reported stolen.

The break-in happened at a home on Erie Street sometime between Sunday and Thursday. Damage caused during the break-in is estimated at $1,000.

Wanted people arrested

A 15-year-old Wallaceburg girl wanted for uttering threats was arrested Thursday afternoon. She was released to a family member and given a future court date scheduled for October 19.

A 19-year-old Chatham man wanted for assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance, and breaching his probation order was arrested early Friday morning. He was released with a future court date scheduled for October 7.
