Flood watch issued by LTVCA

A flood watch has been issued for the Lake Erie shoreline, Rondeau Bay, and Lighthouse Cove.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) said high lake levels and strong wind that are expected until Saturday morning may cause shoreline damage, erosion and/or flooding on Lake St. Clair, including Lighthouse Cove. There's also a risk of flooding for Rondeau Bay communities such as Shrewsbury and the bay side of Erieau, as well as a risk of shoreline damage, erosion and/or flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline, especially Rose Beach Line.

"Forecasts predict that winds will pick up this evening. Forecasts suggest that winds could rise above 25 km/hr this evening and could remain between 25-35 km/hr throughout the day tomorrow into Saturday morning," said Jason Wintermute of the LTVCA.

Wintermute said people should avoid the shoreline should conditions get rough because the waves can be strong and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water that could be thrown onto the shore.
