A 29-year-old Chatham woman is facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon turned into a drug bust.
Chatham-Kent police said the woman was initially stopped on Queen Street in Chatham and issued a ticket for having an obstructed license plate. According to police, the woman ripped up the ticket and took off, squealing her tires in the process.
As a result, the same officer who pulled her over on Queen Street stopped her again on King Street and told her she was going to get another ticket for unreasonable noise. At that point, the woman allegedly took off again, eventually stopping for the officer on St. Clair Street.
Police said the woman also resisted arrest, adding that when they did manage to take her into custody, they also found a large amount of Canadian cash on her along with some packaging material and some suspected fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and oxycodone pills.
Officers said the drugs that they found have a combined estimated street value of $28,000.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with flight from police, resisting arrest, and four counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
She was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
