The Active Lifestyle Centre (ALC) in Chatham is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The centre for adults 50+ started in 1970 with a handful of members, about 8 or 10.
"In the beginning, it started on a storefront on Queen Street, then they moved to the Cultural Centre, then to their final home here on the end on Merritt," said Executive Director Linda Lucas. "And now we have, pre-COVID, approximately 1,500 members."
The ALC marked 50 years on Friday, August 14 with a very small celebration on its patio with some dignitaries, councillors, and its board of directors.
Lucas said they're currently not offering all of their services due to the pandemic.
"Our foot care services are open. We have two new services, we have a hairdresser and an esthetician. We have our socially distancing patio, and we have a great meal service. They're all prepared, served cold, and you can take them home and heat them up."
The centre does have some exercise classes online. For more information, CLICK HERE.
