UPDATE: Another COVID-19 outbreak declared in CK

The Salvation Army in Chatham-Kent is dealing with a small COVID-19 outbreak.

CK Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby said CK Public Health confirmed a second case at the Salvation Army on Tuesday and will be declaring a workplace outbreak.

Salvation Army spokesperson Gina Haggett told Blackburn News on Monday that two staff members at the church office have tested positive for the coronavirus. Haggett said the church has been closed because of the pandemic but the community and family services office on-site has been open. It has since closed. She said one of the staffers noticed he had some sniffles and thought it was just seasonal allergies. He decided to get tested and the result turned out to be positive.

Haggett said CK Public Health has been notified and officials there are investigating how the staff members were infected. She added testing is underway at the community and family services office and all local Salvation Army Food Banks. The two infected staffers work on the frontlines of community service and are in contact with several people every week.

CK Public Health reported 11 new cases on Monday and 16 recovered cases for a total of 88 active cases. That's five fewer active cases than Friday. Three local people remain in the hospital recovering from the coronavirus. The death toll remains at two.
