New Family Medicine residents join CKHA

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has three new Family Medicine residents, including one who is originally from Chatham.

Dr. Matthew Milkovic, Dr. Aamer Somani, and Dr. Shreya Roy are from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University in London and began their post-graduate training at CKHA in early July.

Dr. Milkovic is originally from Chatham and earned a Bachelor of Medicine from Graduate Entry Medical School at the University of Limerick in Ireland in 2020.

"I was born and raised in Chatham, and always found the opportunity of returning and giving back to the community appealing," said Dr. Milkovic.

Dr. Somani is originally from Brampton and completed his Doctor of Medicine from Western University in 2020.

Joining Milkovic and Somani as a first-year resident in Family Medicine is Dr. Roy.

They will live in Chatham-Kent and gain experience with local physicians who provide support and direction to complete the hands-on portion of their medical training.

"Our medical residency program offers the opportunity to learn and practice medicine in a rural environment with a variety of learning opportunities in both inpatient and outpatient medicine," said Dr. Pervez Faruqi, the chief of staff at CKHA. "During their time here many of our residents also discover that Chatham-Kent is a welcoming community and an ideal place to settle into."

The three residents will join second-year Family Medicine residents, Dr. Elyse Epp, Dr. Benjamin Lau, Dr. Shannon Milkovic and Dr. Matthew VanTil.
