Final property tax notices sent out

The final installment of Chatham-Kent’s interim property tax billing is due on September 11.

Chatham-Kent Council voted in April to change standard due dates for municipal property taxes to allow people to recover from the COVID-19 crisis. As a result, the usual due date of August 4 was pushed to September.

Municipal officials said if property taxes are not paid for by the extended due date of September 11, interest will be added to the amount owed.

Residents who are taking advantage of the delayed deadline should have received a tax notice in the mail on July 31.

Despite the deadline delays, it appears most residents did not prefer putting off paying their property taxes. In June, figures showed that although the second installment deadline was pushed to July 10, $74.9 million of the $93 million due was already paid for by the original due date of May 1.

Municipal officials said the November 2nd property tax due date will remain the same.

Further details on tax payments can be found on the Municipality's website. Most municipal offices are now open to the public, however, strict measures are in place.
