Police tase golf club wielding man in Chatham

Allegedly swinging a golf club at police has landed a Chatham man in some trouble.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious man on Riverview Drive yesterday afternoon. The man was allegedly swinging a golf club at passing vehicles while yelling at people.

He was located on Irwin Street, and police say he continued to swing the golf club and refused to drop it. The suspect allegedly raised the club in an aggressive manner, so officers deployed a conducted energy weapon.

The 55-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was released pending a future court date.

Pair charged after argument escalates

A domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham has led to charges against a man and woman.

Police were called yesterday afternoon after a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation. An investigation found that that this was not the first domestic incident in the relationship.

The 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, three counts of assault and three counts of uttering threats.

The 25-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon and mischief.

Both are being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Wandering into traffic leads to breach of probation

Walking in and out of traffic in Chatham has landed one man back in police custody.

Police were called to Wellington St. yesterday afternoon after receiving reports of a man walking into traffic.

Officers located him near a convenience store on Grand Ave. and learned that he was bound by conditions not to attend that specific store.

The 37-year-old was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and breach of probation. He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged after throwing rock

A 37-year-old has been charged with mischief after he was caught on video surveillance throwing a rock at a front door on Grand Ave. in Chatham.

Police say it happened on Sunday afternoon, causing the glass to shatter.

The man responsible was identified by officers thanks to video surveillance, and he was arrested early Thursday morning. He was charged, then released pending a future court date.

Pair charged for breaking release conditions

Back in May, a man was released from Court with several conditions, including one that he was to remain in his residence at all times, except for medical emergencies, and to not communicate with a specific woman or go to her home.

On Wednesday, police received information that the man was at the woman's apartment.

Officers located the 57-year-old on her property and charged him with three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He was released pending a future court date.

A 45-year-old Chatham woman was also arrested and charged with facilitating a breach. She was released pending a future court date.

Speeders stopped on Charing Cross Road

Residents are reminded to slow down after 14 motorists were charged with speeding in Chatham on Wednesday.

The speeders were stopped by members of 'A' platoon who were conducting traffic enforcement on Charing Cross Road yesterday morning.
