Doughnuts in Erieau parking lot spark argument, arrests

Two Windsor men in their 20s are facing assault charges after a spin in the parking lot of the Erieau Marina took a violent turn.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to Kerr Avenue in Erieau at around 8 p.m. Monday after a local citizen spotted a pickup truck doing doughnuts in the parking lot of the marina there.

Police said the citizen approached the truck, at which point, two men got out of the vehicle and threatened him during an argument.

The men then allegedly took off towards the boat launch.

Officers said the citizen followed the men and kept asking them to leave the area because of their "erratic driving".

The men in the truck then allegedly threatened the citizen with a metal pipe before throwing it at him. The rear windshield of the citizen's vehicle was also smashed as the men took off.

Police were able to obtain a description of the truck and the men and ended up spotting the vehicle at around 8:30 p.m.on the westbound Highway 401.

With some help from the OPP, Chatham-Kent police were able to stop the men near Manning Road in Windsor and arrested them in connection with the case.

A 22-year-old Windsor man was charged with two counts of assault (one with a weapon) and one count of uttering threats.

The co-accused, a 24-year-old Windsor man, was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and mischief.

Both of the men who were arrested were later released with future court dates.
