Miracle's monetary donations split between local organizations

Chatham-Kent's May 16 Miracle is a gift that keeps on giving.

The United Way of Chatham-Kent (UWOCK) says in addition to the 678,200 pounds of food that was collected during the event, thousands of dollars in monetary donations also came in through ckgives.ca -- some also went directly to emergency food providers in the community.

A release from the UWOCK says $45,855.31 was collected within Chatham's city limits alone. That money is being split between 31 local front-line organizations* that help to provide food relief programs in Chatham-Kent.

The UWOCK says "the need for food relief through Chatham-Kent's food banks and emergency food providers has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic" -- especially because many people have lost their jobs and sources of income.

Any families who need food support are encouraged to contact their nearest food bank, dial 211, or visit www.211ontario.ca.

Anyone who is looking to make a donation to the United Way is encouraged to visit ckgives.ca or call the United Way office at 519.354.0430 to make your contribution. They are encouraging individuals or businesses interested in continuing to support front-line agencies to donate money or gift cards.
