Assault involving machete 

An alleged assault has lead to several charges for a man.

Around 8:30 p.m. Friday police responded to an incident on Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham.

A man had allegedly broken into a residence, punched a female victim then proceeded to chase the neighbours with a machete.

The accused has been charged with two counts of break and enter, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, theft and mischief.


Man found passed out in car

A 19-year-old has a future court date after allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel.

Around 6 a.m. Friday, the man was located on Prince Albert Road in Chatham. According to police, he was found in the driver’s seat sleeping inside a running vehicle that was parked on the road.

He was arrested for impaired driving before eventually being released with a future court date.

His vehicle was also towed as a result and his driver’s licenced was seized.


Disturbance calls lead to arrests 

Two men had to spend some time with police while they sobered up.

Around 1 p.m. Friday, police responded to a disturbance on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg. A 36-year-old was found intoxicated in a public place and unable to care for himself.

Then shortly before 3 p.m., officers responded to two calls about a man in the Grand Avenue area in Chatham who was walking into the path of traffic.

Both men were arrested and taken into police headquarters where they were held until sober.


Break and enter in Wallaceburg

Police are reporting a break and enter on Langstaff Line in Wallaceburg.

It was reported that sometime overnight on Saturday an unknown person entered a shop and stole $850 worth of numerous tools.

There are currently no suspects.
