Suspicious van approaches woman in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to track down two men who were in a burgundy van that pulled up to a woman in Chatham over the weekend.

Police said the incident took place sometime between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers said the woman was walking on Jeffery Street and was approached by two men in the van who were asking directions. The men then reportedly asked the woman for her phone number and offered the woman some money if she spoke with them.

She turned them down, though, and kept walking.

Police said the men stayed in the vehicle the whole time and didn't make any physical contact with the woman.

The driver was wearing an orange shirt and the passenger was wearing a black t-shirt. Officers said both of the men were non-white and spoke with an accent.

Police said they are looking for any information they can get on the men or the vehicle. Anyone with info can contact is asked to contact Constable Kristen Charron at kristenc@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 ext. 87352. Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
