Curbside pickup available at Chatham library, more communities to come

The Chatham library branch has started offering curbside service while libraries remain closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The municipality announced library materials will be available at select library branches in the coming weeks and said more details will be available soon.

“Our libraries are important to so many people in our community," said Mayor Darrin Canniff. "The curbside service is the first step in getting everyone back in touch with a service they’ve missed.”

The service launched Tuesday afternoon at the Chatham branch at 120 Queen Street and pickup will be available outside the branch by appointment only. The curbside pickup will then expand to Wallaceburg, Ridgetown and Tilbury branches.

"Library staff will initially be offering materials to patrons who already have items on the holds shelves," said Chief Librarian Tania Sharpe.

CKPL said the health and safety of the library team and the public is important, so precautions will be in practice to keep everyone safe. If you're sick, library officials are asking you to cancel your appointment and keep library materials at home for two weeks. They added that no library fines are being charged during the curbside service.
