New Brunswick couple arrested in Ridgetown

Two New Brunswick residents in their 20s were arrested in Ridgetown Tuesday morning after police followed up on a call about a suspicious vehicle.

Police said they got the call at around 8 a.m. Tuesday, adding that when officers checked the license plate on the vehicle, they learned that the plate was reported stolen.

Investigators said they found a man and a woman near the vehicle and later learned that the woman was bound by conditions not to leave New Brunswick and had some crystal methamphetamine in her possession.

A 28-year-old New Brunswick woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions and drug possession. She was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 23-year-old New Brunswick man was arrested and charged with theft. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Drug bust turns up cocaine, magic mushrooms

Chatham-Kent police have arrested an alleged drug dealer in Chatham after officers executed a search warrant at a local residence Tuesday afternoon.

Police said members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section found and seized about $1,000 worth of already packaged cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms (magic mushrooms), and oxycodone tabs during their search.

Officers also found a large amount of Canadian cash and some digital scales at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was later released with a future court date.

Impaired driving charge follows crash

A 19-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with impaired driving after a single-vehicle crash on Bear Line Road early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the scene between Claymore Line and Rivard Line at around 4 a.m.

Police said they suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so they gave him a breath test, which he failed. He was then taken back to police headquarters for further tests and later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

He has since been released pending a future court date.

Speeders stopped in Chatham, Tilbury

Eighteen drivers were stopped and ticketed during a traffic enforcement blitz in Chatham and Tilbury on Tuesday.

Police said members of the Traffic Unit and Community Patrol stopped eight of them in Chatham on Indian Creek Road, Keil Drive, and McNaughton Avenue East.

Another 10 drivers were stopped for speeding on Mill Street in Tilbury.
