Suspicious lawnmower leads police to stolen U-Haul truck

Chatham-Kent police have made one arrest and they are looking to arrest a second suspect after an officer followed a stolen lawnmower to a stolen U-Haul truck in Chatham.

Police said an officer on general patrol saw a suspicious man driving a lawnmower east on Pioneer Line near Walmart just before 5 a.m. Tuesday and saw a woman waiting for him standing next to a U-Haul truck in the parking lot.

Investigators said when the man saw the cruiser, he took off running, but police were able to arrest the woman.

Police said they determined that the lawnmower was stolen from Home Depot and the U-Haul truck was stolen from Windsor.

A 27-year-old Dover Township woman was arrested and charged with theft, and two counts of property obtained by crime.

Police have identified a male suspect in connection with the case as well and they are working to obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Tools, sports equipment targeted during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone broke into an unlocked garage on Sherwood Court in Chatham.

Police said someone broke in sometime between 9 p.m. Sunday night and 7 a.m. Monday and took off with various tools, baseball equipment, and a grey Supercycle bike.

The total value of the theft is estimated at $800.

Charge laid after crash in Chatham

A 63-year-old woman is charged with making an unsafe start from a stopped position after a two-vehicle crash on Forest Street near Elizabeth Street in Chatham.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the collision Monday afternoon.

Minor injuries were reported and the total damage was estimated at $15,000.
