Police cruiser struck during hit and run

Chatham-Kent police are looking for tips from the public as they try to track down a driver who was involved in a crash with a marked police cruiser in Wheatley.

Police said a marked cruiser was heading through the intersection of Erie Street and Talbot Road in Wheatley at around 6 p.m. Sunday night when it was involved in a crash with a grey Honda Civic that turned in front of it.

The officer was not injured as a result of the collision, but the driver of the other vehicle allegedly fled the scene and the vehicle was found abandoned a short time later on Julian Street.

Officers are asking the public for help to identify the person who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

U-Haul vehicles spray-painted in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after eight U-Haul vehicles were spray-painted with the acronyms BLM, FTP, and an anarchy symbol.

Police said the vehicles were parked on Merritt Avenue in Chatham when the incident happened sometime between 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Damage is estimated at $5,000.

Wheatley teen charged with impaired driving

A Wheatley man who isn't old enough to legally drink alcohol is facing an impaired driving charge after police followed up on a tip about a possible impaired driver Sunday night.

Police said they received the report at around 9 p.m. Sunday, indicating that the driver was spotted in the area of Talbot Street West in Wheatley.

Officers found the vehicle and pulled it over on Erie Street North. The driver was then taken to the OPP station in Leamington for breath tests.

As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old Wheatley man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and was later released with a future court date.

Assault charges laid after disturbance in Wallaceburg

A 43-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been arrested and charged after she allegedly assaulted two people she knows recently.

Police said they received the call Sunday morning and responded to an address on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

The accused was charged with two counts of assault and later released pending a future court date.

Domestic violence charges laid in Dresden

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 29-year-old Dresden man accused of assaulting his wife.

Police said they were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Dresden Sunday night and learned through their investigation that a verbal argument between the couple had escalated into a physical altercation.

The man was charged with assault and assault with a weapon and was later released with a future court date.

Teen arrested for being out past his curfew

A 16-year-old Chatham youth is in more trouble with police after allegedly violating his curfew twice over the weekend.

Police said they received information Sunday afternoon that the youth had failed to obey his court-imposed curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. both Friday and Saturday night.

The accused was later released pending a future court date.
