Couple falls victim to roadside scam

Chatham-Kent police are issuing a warning to local residents to watch out for scams that look to take advantage of people's generosity.

Officers sent out that note on Thursday after learning that a woman and her husband had recently been scammed by two men who were selling jewellery for cash at the Service Centre in the Ridgetown. According to the report, the men said they needed the money for their children.

Police said the couple was approached by the men over the past weekend and agreed to pay $250 for two rings, a pendant, and a chain that they later learned was of "little value".

Officers are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity similar to the scam listed above to call police immediately with physical descriptors of those involved along with a description of their vehicle including the license plate, if possible.
