UPDATE: CK police officer charged in connection with fraud investigation

A Chatham-Kent police officer has been arrested and charged with fraud-related offences in connection with an investigation going back to December of last year.

Chatham-Kent police said they started looking into the case after a local citizen reported to police on December 27, 2019 that he had some personal blank cheques stolen.

Police said their investigation showed that an officer with the local municipal force may have been involved, so they called in Sarnia police to investigate further.

As a result of that investigation, Constable Cristelle Vanden Enden was arrested and charged with fraud, cause use of a forged document, and possession of property obtained by crime.

She was later released from custody and is currently on leave from work with a court date scheduled for September 9, 2020.

Constable Renee Cowell, public information officer, said Vanden Enden is not suspended with pay, but on leave from work for reasons that cannot be disclosed.
