Woman found sleeping in vehicle at car dealership

A 40-year-old woman of no fixed address is charged with mischief after allegedly ripping into a vehicle that was parked at a dealership in Chatham and then sleeping in another one.

Police said they were called to the scene Monday morning for a report of a "suspicious woman."

Through their investigation, officers learned that the woman had allegedly "damaged a vehicle on the lot by ripping apart the seats and console looking for electrical wiring."

Officers said the woman was found sleeping in another vehicle. The damage was estimated at $500.

The accused was arrested, charged, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Glass door smashed at Wallaceburg Community Centre

A 28-year-old man of no fixed address is charged after allegedly kicking in the front door of the Wallaceburg Community Centre on James Street.

Officers said that was Monday afternoon. The damages are estimated at $800.

The accused was arrested a short distance away, charged, and later released pending a future court date.

Police recover stolen items

Chatham-Kent police are hoping to return a pair of watches that officers suspect were stolen.

Police said they found them near a residence on Allen Street in Chatham on Monday. One is a gold CAW watch with an inscription on the back -- it dates back to 1998. Both are pictured below.

In the meantime, officers have also recovered a couple of fibre optic locators and are hoping to return them to the rightful owners.

Mischief reported at Eye Care Centre

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone damaged a window at the Wallaceburg Eye Care Centre on Wellington Street on Monday night.

Damage is estimated at $800.

Suspicious man found lying down on lawn

A 54-year-old Chatham man is charged after police picked him up off of a lawn on Selkirk Street in Chatham.

Officers said they got the call at around 3 a.m. Tuesday and took him into custody for his own safety because he was unable to care for himself.

Police said the accused was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and was set to be released once he sobers up.
