Mitchell's Bay car show hits COVID-19 roadblock

A summertime event in Mitchell's Bay that attracts several antique vehicle enthusiasts has been cancelled this year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mitchell's Bay 9th Annual Antique Car, Truck, Motorcycle and Tractor Show was scheduled to take place on July 18.

Members of the Mitchell's Bay Area Association (MBAA) said the difficult decision to cancel the event had to do with several factors, including health and safety concerns. However, other deciding factors stem from a business perspective.

As many businesses are currently struggling by the hardships brought on by COVID-19, the MBAA officials said they "felt that it was only right to respect" their financial situation instead of asking for sponsorship. As for vendors, the MBAA said it would be best to give as much notice as possible to the cancelled event rather than take a waiting approach.

"We are saddened by the cancellation of the 2020 car show and hope that you can understand the necessity of making this decision at the present time," said Karen Miles, MBAA car show chair, in a media release.

The MBAA said the focus will now shift into gear for next year's car show.
