11 local charities benefit from COVID-19 Relief Fund

A total of $150,000 is going towards several Chatham-Kent based charities through a special fund designed to provide support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The South Kent Wind Community Fund and the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation (CKCF) are putting their usual spring grants on hold to introduce the CKCF COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The CKCF COVID-19 Relief Fund will help continue access to mental health services, expand on-line learning as well as provide transportation, shelter and food for those who are most vulnerable.

A total of 11 charitable organizations in Chatham-Kent will receive funding including the Blenheim Youth Centre, the Camp Oochigeas & Camp Trillium Childhood Cancer Support Centre, the Chatham Kent Women’s Centre, Chatham Outreach For Hunger, the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation, the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent, Junior Achievement of Southwestern Ontario, the Mental Health Network of Chatham-Kent and The Kidney Foundation of Canada.

“We are so appreciative to the CK Community Foundation and the South Kent Wind Community Fund for this grant, especially during this COVID-19 crisis," said Jodi Maroney, executive director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation "We will use the funds to cover the cost of our linen service, a vital service that helps us maintain our high infection control standards as well as offering our residents the comfort they deserve. With the high level of uncertainty, we are operating in right now, this donation means a lot.”
