Birthday cruises come to Chatham-Kent

A number of local residents are working to make sure birthdays are still memorable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chatham-Kent Birthday Cruises was started by Steve Ringuette and his wife Laura Carter after they tried to get a similar group from Windsor to come to town for their son's birthday.

"We all get together in the community, we meet up at certain parking lots, and we decorate up our vehicles, and we drive by your houses at a certain time, and honk the horns and yell out the window," said Ringuette.

A fancy car is not required and donations are not being collected. Ringuette said they just wanted to put smiles on people's faces.

The group has only been around a little over a week, but Ringuette said the community support has been outstanding.

"We got a couple people that are helping us. We've got some organizers that kicked in, offered some of their support. The community gave us a bunch of support. Chatham-Kent police are also with us, they're behind us 100 per cent. So ya, it's kicking off pretty good."

If you have a birthday you would like to group to celebrate, or you would like to be a part of a cruise, you can reach the organizers through their Facebook page.
