Wanted man arrested, charged with drug possession

A call about a suspicious person in the area of the WISH Centre in Chatham Tuesday night led police to a wanted man.

Police said when they were responding to the call at around 8 p.m. Tuesday, they located a suspect and learned that he was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

When the man was being searched, police also allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine on the man.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old Chatham man was charged and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Charges laid after crashes

A 17-year-old teen from St. Joachim is charged with careless driving in connection with a Tuesday afternoon crash on Third Line.

Police said the single-vehicle collision took place between Merlin Road and Drake Road, adding minor injuries were reported and the total damage was estimated at $3,500.

Chatham-Kent police also charged a 24-year-old Dresden man with careless driving in connection with a separate single-vehicle crash on Kent Bridge Road near Pavey Line.

Police said that crash took place shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, adding the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a hydro pole.

No injuries were reported and the damage was estimated at $12,000.

Dover Township man back in custody

It didn't take long for a 20-year-old man from Dover Township who was released by police on Saturday to get himself back into trouble.

Chatham-Kent police said when the man was released, he was also ordered to stop communicating with two family members and to stay away from their home.

Investigators said despite those orders, the man contacted one of those family members on Sunday and attended their home on Tuesday.

Officers were able to track him down Tuesday night and arrested him.

As a result, the accused was charged with three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
