CK resident shares what it's like to have COVID-19

A well known Chatham-Kent resident is sharing his story after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Angelo Ligori is a senior advisor at Greenfield Global in Chatham and is known in the local running community and for teaching spin classes at the YMCA. He started having symptoms on March 17, and went to the assessment centre four days later, but was sent home because he didn't have a high fever.

Ligori went back on March 26 after his fever spiked. He was tested and said the test is not pleasant.

"It's a long, long extended q-tip that goes down into, mine was in the left nostril, and they dip it down and it goes right into your throat," said Ligori. "It sits there for about a couple of seconds, and then they pull it out very slowly. "

Ligori found out that he tested positive for COVID-19 two days later.

"I thought, geez I know I can just go through this, I've had other flu's before, you know I'm in great shape. But this is a completely different animal. I tell you, the three days where I was the high fever, I thought, it's by far the worst experience I've ever had in my entire life."

An x-ray also showed pneumonia so Ligori also had two rounds of antibiotics.

"Some pneumonia cases have gone on for several months. I run out of breath going up and downstairs, so the thought it, COVID okay, say within the next few weeks, but for me to get my lungs back to do another, say 10 km race, it will probably be Labour Day."

Ligori's wife also tested positive for COVID-19 about 10 days ago.

"She's reacted totally different, she's got a cough and that's it. That's very typical to what everyone's heard, not everyone gets this the same way. I'm a little bit older, maybe I'm a little bit more banged up, and it's taken me a little bit longer, but I'm back."

Ligori said being a good shape helped him fight the virus.
