Driver pulls a U-turn in apparent attempt to evade police

A 37-year-old Chatham man who was previously suspended from driving is in even more trouble now after he allegedly tried to avoid being stopped by a local police officer.

Chatham-Kent police said a vehicle that was heading east on Grand Avenue in Chatham Tuesday morning caught the attention of a local police officer who was on general patrol, adding that a quick check of the license plate showed that it didn't line up with the vehicle it was attached to.

The driver then made a quick turn into a nearby parking lot, pulled a u-turn and headed back down Grand Avenue in the opposite direction in an apparent attempt to evade police.

Police said at that point, the officer activated his emergency lights and tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver continued on for about a kilometre before eventually pulling into a residential driveway.

The accused -- a 37-year-old Chatham man -- was arrested and charged with using an improper license plate, driving while suspended, and failing to stop for police.

He was later released with a future court date.

A 35-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested for mischief and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. A 37-year-old woman of no fixed address was also arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with her release conditions.

Man accused of breaching probation

A 29-year-old Wallaceburg man is in more trouble with police after he allegedly made a trip to an apartment complex he was supposed to stay away from.

Chatham-Kent police say back in September, the man was ordered to steer clear of an apartment building in Wallaceburg where a specific woman lives.

Officers said the man allegedly violated that probation order on Tuesday, so he was arrested and charged with failing to comply.

He was later released with a future court date.
