Tribute to CK health care heroes

A Chatham woman is adopting a movement to show local health care workers and first responders that they are supported and loved during their dangerous and sometimes scary battle against COVID-19.

Tracy Weber wants people to tie white ribbons around trees in their front yard or display them on their front doors or windows to show support for the exhausted and overwhelmed front line workers and lift their spirits during a very tough stretch in their lives.

"Let's get our community to show our support for front line workers," Weber said. "Imagine how they would feel driving into work seeing these plastered everywhere. I'll start."

She got the idea after seeing news that white ribbons were being displayed on widows in Detroit to show support for health care workers fighting on the front lines of the pandemic there.

Several cities across North America have shown their support for health care workers lately by either donating personal protective equipment, clapping, banging pots and pans, honking vehicle horns, or lighting windows in hi-rise buildings at night in the shape of a heart.

Tying ribbons around trees became a common sight during war to support troops and many people believe this coronavirus is a war like no other because the enemy is invisible.

Chatham-Kent has already seen plenty of love and support for the dedicated front line health care workers and first responders from free food being delivered to posters with messages of love and gratitude displayed on storefronts showing our heroes that we care and appreciate them for putting themselves in the line of fire.
