CK receives grant for maintenance along the Great Trail

Efforts to clean and maintain a trail that runs across the country and through Chatham-Kent, are paying off.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has received a $2,000 grant from a non-profit organization through its 2020 spring clean-up program along the Great Trail of Canada.

The Municipality is responsible for maintaining over 214.45 kilometres of the Great Trail --  formerly known as the Trans Canada Trail. Municipal officials said part of the Great Trail runs along the former CASO rail corridor (the CASO Trail) through Highgate, Ridgetown, and Fargo.

Funding from the grant will be used to support a section of the CASO Trail that runs between Kent Bridge Road and Erie Street North in Ridgetown. Phase One of the CASO Trail in this area was completed in 2018. The project was supported by a non-profit organization that supports further development of the Great Trail.
