Man hiding cocaine in his underwear tries to push officer down some stairs

A 24-year-old Chatham man is facing drug and assault-related charges after an incident at a residence on King Street in Chatham Thursday night.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called in to get an "unwanted man" to leave the residence, but when the man was asked to leave, he allegedly tried to push an officer down a set of stairs.

Police said after that, the man continued to resist arrest, but was eventually taken into custody.

During that time, officers suspected that the man was under the influence of drugs, so they took him to the hospital for medical attention. Police said while the man was receiving treatment at the hospital, some suspected cocaine was found in his underwear.

Once the man was cleared from medical care, he was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and drug possession. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham teen faces weapon, assault, threat-related charges

A 14-year-old Chatham boy who allegedly tried to coerce two girls into helping him commit a criminal offence against another person is in trouble with the law -- again.

Police said the teen had already been ordered not to have any weapons on him and not to communicate with the two girls.

Despite that, the teen allegedly threatened the girls while holding a knife Thursday night in an attempt to get them to commit a crime.

Investigators said the girls tried to get the knife away from the boy, but he took off.

Officers were able to catch up with him early Friday morning and arrested him.

The accused is now facing a number of weapon, assault, and threat-related charges in addition to three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic stop turns up suspected methamphetamine

Chatham-Kent police have pulled a 32-year-old Blenheim woman off the road again after she was allegedly out driving when she shouldn't have been behind the wheel.

Police said they pulled the woman's vehicle over Thursday night on Pond Road near McCreary Line in Wallaceburg after a quick check of the license plates showed that they didn't match up with the vehicle they were attached to.

That was just the beginning of the trouble, though.

Police said the officer who pulled the vehicle over learned that the woman behind the wheel was both suspended and banned from driving. The officer also allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine on the woman.

The accused was arrested and charged with a number of traffic-related offences and one count of drug trafficking.

Her vehicle was towed from the scene and will now be locked up for 45 days. The woman was later released pending a future court date.
