Careless driving charge after crash in Chatham

A 71-year-old Chatham man has been charged with careless driving in connection with a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning.

Police said it was on Queen Street near Tweedsmuir Avenue in Chatham, adding that one of the drivers involved was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The damage was estimated at $20,000.

Racing on the Highway 401

A 23-year-old from Oakville is charged with racing a motor vehicle after OPP allegedly stopped someone who was going 170 km/h on the Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.

Police said an officer on patrol stopped the vehicle after noticing that it was moving at a high rate of speed in the area of the Communication Road exit just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver's licence was suspended and the vehicle has been taken away for seven days. The accused is also set to appear in court in July to answer to the charge.

Disturbance between two women leads to charge

A 45-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with assault after a "disturbance" on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Police said two women who know each other were involved in the incident and officers were called in Monday afternoon.

The woman who was arrested in connection with the case was charged and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Second youth arrested in connection with disturbance

Chatham-Kent police have made a second arrest after a recent disturbance between some youths in Chatham.

Police previously arrested a 16-year-old Chatham youth and charged him with two counts of assault in connection with the incident, which took place in the area of Queen Street and Park Avenue East in Chatham last week Wednesday.

Now, officers have also charged a 15-year-old Chatham youth in connection with the case. Officers said the second youth was charged with assault and theft. He was later released pending a future court date.

Chatham man accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend

Chatham-Kent police have made an arrest after a woman in distress flagged down an officer on general patrol at around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Police said during their investigation, they learned that the woman had allegedly been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. He also allegedly damaged her phone.

Officers said the man was released from custody with several conditions earlier this month, adding that one of those conditions was that he was not supposed to communicate with his ex-girlfriend.

Police were able to track down the suspect, arrested him, and charged him with assault, mischief, and failing to comply with his release conditions. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Two arrests on outstanding warrants

Local police have caught up with a 36-year-old Chatham woman and a 36-year-old Chatham man who were both wanted on arrest warrants.

Police said the woman was wanted for failing to comply with her release conditions while the man was wanted on a surety relief warrant.

Both of the accused were arrested Tuesday afternoon, but in two separate cases.

The woman was arrested, charged, and released pending a future court date. The man was arrested and taken to a local correctional facility.
