Designer sunglasses, laptop stolen during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a theft from an unlocked garage on Thelma Avenue in Chatham.

Police said someone broke into the garage sometime over the weekend and stole a Mac Book, various tools, some Dolce Gabbana sunglasses, and some Ray-Ban sunglasses. All of those items were taken from a vehicle that was parked in the garage at the time.

The items that were stolen have a combined estimated value of $10,000.

Yard maintenance equipment stolen

Police are trying to track down a leaf blower and a weed wacker that were reportedly taken during a break-in at The Clubhouse at Baldoon on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officers said someone broke into the shed over the weekend and took off with the power tools, which have a combined value of $700.

Out past his curfew

A 36-year-old Wallaceburg man is in more trouble with police now after officers spotted him out and about during a traffic stop late Monday night.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle that an officer pulled over on Dufferin Avenue near Bluewater Line just before midnight Monday.

During that stop, the officer learned that the man was out past his curfew, so the accused was arrested and charged with failing to comply.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Teen driver charged after crash

A 17-year-old Blenheim teen has been charged with failing to yield the right of way in connection with a crash in Blenheim.

Police said they were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Jane Street near Chatham Street Monday afternoon.

No injuries were reported and the damage was estimated at $5,000.

Stunt driver stopped on Hwy. 401

A 24-year-old driver from Brampton is accused of speeding down Highway 401 after officers clocked a vehicle going faster than 160 kilometres an hour.

Chatham-Kent OPP stopped a vehicle near the Kent Bridge Road exit on Monday morning, around 9:55 a.m.

The Brampton driver was charged with racing a motor vehicle, which includes an automatic seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Police said the 24-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on June 29.
