Two travel-related COVID-19 cases confirmed in CK

Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total of confirmed cases in Chatham-Kent to six.

Although both cases are associated with travel, the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit said the two are unrelated.

One of the recently reported cases is a 38-year-old man who returned from the U.S. on March 15.  He is in stable condition after being hospitalized.

The second, is a 66-year-old man who is self-isolating at home after coming into contact with a visitor from Italy on March 14.

Health officials are in the process of connecting with people who have had contact with the confirmed cases and those people will be told to self-isolate for 14 days.

Public health officials are stressing the importance of social distancing, avoiding unnecessary trips, and having good hand-hygiene.

Residents who believe they may have COVID-19 symptoms are asked to self-isolate and use Ontario's Self-Assessment Tool to see if further care is needed. Residents may also call their local health care provider, TeleHealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000, or CK Public Health at 519-355-1071 ext. 1900.
