Facebook Live event looks to answer COVID-19 questions

Residents who have questions about COVID-19 will be able to ask them directly to Chatham-Kent health officials and the mayor during a Facebook Live session on Tuesday.

Mayor Darrin Canniff, CAO Don Shropshire, Chatham-Kent Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby, and Chatham-Kent Health Alliance President and CEO Lori Marshall will answer questions online on Tuesday afternoon, starting at 12:15 p.m.

In addition to answering questions, the session will go over the importance of social distancing, a concept some apparently refuse to practice.

"There are others who just don’t get it – they are placing their health and that of their loved ones and the entire community in jeopardy," said Mayor Canniff in a statement. "They need to stop their selfish behaviour.”

Canniff said he has already received some "great questions" from the public and hopes the Facebook live event will clear any misunderstanding or misinformation circulating through social media.

“This is no time to be relying on rumours or speculation,” said Canniff. “We may not have all the answers but we will provide as much accurate scientific and medical information as we can.”

Viewers will be able to watch and submit questions through the municipal Facebook page. Those who are unable to watch the live feed can play it back at a later time.

The federal government recently launched an ad-campaign to properly educate Canadians on COVID-19.
